What is life coaching?
Coaching is a proactive partnership that concentrates on how to move persons from where they are today to where they would like to be in the future. Through regular coaching sessions, clients are guided into identifying what is most important to them and aligning their attitudes, words, social skills and actions accordingly. Finding direction in life depends on gaining a thorough understanding of the values, beliefs and decision-making aptitude of an individual. Coaching leads to these discoveries through inquiry, encouragement, support, and decision making.
Who needs a coach?
Everyone needs guidance from time to time in their life’s journey. A coach can help to create pathways that lead to advancing in a desired direction. Areas in which guidance is needed could include (but are not limited to) career development, relationship enhancement, spiritual growth, lifestyle management, life balance, decision making, and achieving short-term or long-term goals. Coaching leads to identifying matters of greatest importance; facilitating wise decision-making; inspiring courageous action; and developing sustainable energy for balanced living.
How is coaching different?
The coach approach is about helping a person make positive advancements towards reaching his/her fullest potential. It is action-oriented, pro-active and progressive. It differs from mentoring, which is an experience-based connect that usually is dependant upon shared interests and the imparting of learned life skills. It is not the same as consulting which is shared expertise from a learned competency often resulting in providing the client with answers. Nor is it like counselling which goes into depth about various issues usually dealing with the past. Coaching is more action-oriented and focuses primarily on the present and future. The coach enables a person to determine his/her own “answers” through the work done in the coaching partnership.
